How I Got Started

A 30-year History of John Peppers' Creations

My passion for rock waterfalls began at an early age as I grew up playing and swimming in the remote creeks on Lookout Mountain, Georgia.

During the dry season we would dam a creek with rocks to increase the depth of our swimming holes.

I left Lookout Mountain, Georgia, at the age of sixteen, not to return until 1974 to farm my parents property with my father. In 1977, I built a restaurant with some friends in Naples, Florida, called "Outside In" (see image below). I was able to use rocks I had collected from my farming years to make a waterfeature consisting of numerous waterfalls, a sixty foot stream, and two ponds. I also did the restaurant's hardscsape, garden landscape and lighting.

1978 marked the my first official year as a professional naturalist sculptor. I went into business building waterfeatures and landscaping and have been doing so ever since.

I continued working in the Naples area until 1995, then in the lower Florida Keys (Little Torch Key) until 2000. After leaving the Keys, I moved to Warne, North Carolina, and I am still building waterfeatures in the area.
